A Typographic Exploration of
Architectural Heritage
The architectural heritage of Mumbai became the foundation
for this typographic exploration. I studied historic buildings
and closely observed their facades, arches, windows,
symmetry, and ornamental details.
These recurring forms were then used as visual
references to explore how architectural elements could
be translated into letterforms.

A collection of architectural elements was studied and
simplified into visual forms. Columns, capitals, arches, domes
and ornamental details became the primary building blocks for
developing the typeface.

Form Exploration
I explored different variations of columns, domes and
architectural silhouettes to understand their shapes,
proportions and decorative characteristics. These forms helped
establish a visual language that could later be translated into the
typography.

I experimented with different ways of translating columns,
arches, windows and ornamental details into letterforms before
arriving at the final visual language.
Exploring the Letterforms
Patterns
The typeface was further explored as a visual system by arranging
its letterforms into repeating patterns. Rotating, mirroring, and
layering the characters created geometric compositions that extend
the architectural language of the typeface beyond individual letters.
